Drew Brass Photography
About the artist
Drew Brass was born in
Apalachicola, Fl. and raised in the panhandle. He now resides in Apopka, Fl. where he pursues his photography and framing business while also owning a foliage brokerage business and a web design and internet advertising business. He and his family spend as much time as possible at their St. George Island beach cottage, where the picture above of Drew with his two daughters was shot.
He began pursuing an interest in photography while attending the University of Central Florida, learning to shoot and develop black and white film in a summer fun class, and has not looked back. His love of the Gulf Coast is expressed in his serene panoramic images of shrimp and oyster boats, docks, bays, beaches and marshes. His efforts to catalogue a piece of the" Old Florida" have not been in vain. Many of the subjects of his images have since been destroyed by nature or man and can only be found in his reproductions.

His photographic works include pure photography in color, black and white, and mixed media with limited and open editions. His photographic images capture the simple life and quiet beauty of the Apalachicola Bay area, St. George Island, Port St. Joe, Carrabelle, St. Marks, Steinhatchee, and Cedar Key. His Central Florida images include shots of Mount Dora, Winter Park, and the many natural attractions of the Wekiwa and Rock Springs River basins near Apopka.

About the frames
.jpg)
Drew's passion for the coastal areas of Florida doesn't end with capturing images on film. He frames these images with pieces of wood from the areas where they are shot. The original wood frames are as much a part of his art as the images. Each has a story to tell of where it came from and how it was made. The frames are handcrafted the old fashioned way. Many hours are spent finding the wood, sawing planks and boards, routing, assembling and painstakingly hand finishing each frame to preserve as much of its original finish as possible.

The wood comes from historic home restorations, driftwood, old boat, and dock wood. Some frames are made from the pictured boat or building that they frame, which were destroyed by time or storm. Each frame is truly a one of a kind original.

Artemis Gallery is proud to carry Drew's work. We keep a number of his one of a kind framed prints in stock. We also keep as many of his matted prints in stock as we can manage. These go quickly and the subject matter varies from season to season as Drew makes more photographic excursions to places around our area and the rest of Florida.
We will very soon have a selection of Drew's matted prints available directly from our on-line shop. Until then, you can call us at the gallery and we will let you know what we have at any particular time and will be happy to take an order either on-line or over the phone for any of his work and ship it directly to you. You can visit the gallery in Apalachicola and see his work in person seven days a week.
